Janina Fialkowska on tour in North America

“ This programme, selected with such care and affection, is imbued with the character, style and intelligence which are the hallmarks of Fialkowska’s playing. ” — Gramophone Magazine

From February 16 to March 11, 2020, pianist Janina Fialkowska was undertaken a 10-city concert tour in Canada and United States with a program that is partly inspired by her album Les sons et les parfums..., released last fall on ATMA Classique. This affectionate musical memoir evokes a vibrant portrait of Paris during Fialkowska’s youth, when “Poulenc and Tailleferre were still very much alive, and the souls of Ravel, Debussy, and Fauré were still omnipresent.” Fialkowska will perform recitals in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Oregon (United States).

“This recording is pure nostalgia for me, not only for those long ago studies immersed in the ‘French School’, but also for the evocative nature of the music. Each composer magically conjures up a vivid picture of a Paris that has all but disappeared, but which I was fortunate enough to experience in my youth,” says Fialkowska.

For more than 40 years, Janina Fialkowska has enchanted audiences and critics around the world. Praised for her musical integrity, her refreshing natural approach, and her unique piano sound, she is known as “one of the Grandes Dames of piano playing” (Frankfurter Allgemeine).

Fialkowska has received her native country’s highest honours, including Officer of the Order of Canada, the Governor General’s 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award in Classical Music, and three honorary doctorates. She shares on her considerable musical experience in master classes and at her annual International Piano Academy in Bavaria, where she now resides. Fialkowska is a frequent juror for the world’s most prestigious piano competitions.
