The Montreal Guitar Trio and the California Guitar Trio have united to form a double electrifying ensemble: MG3 & CGT!

The musical association between MG3 and CGT dates back to 2009. Since then, the two trios have been touring the roads of the United States and Canada each year to offer an outstanding guitar concert. Indeed, these six exceptional guitarists offer a tornado of varied musical styles, a joyful musical tsunami! In addition to their respective great classics, which they will perform in the first half of the concert, they will also be performing their own compositions, created especially for the occasion, as well as pop music favourites.

Hailed by CBC (Canada) as “Canada’s Hottest Guitar Ensemble”, MG3 has quickly established itself as a leader in the revival and interaction of diverse musical forms. For more than 25 years, their virtuosity, rigour, inventiveness and stunning stage presence – where humour and audience interaction are intertwined – have won audiences around the world. Formed by guitarists Marc Morin, Glenn Lévesque and Sébastien Deshaies, the trio has performed hundreds of concerts throughout North America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia, in the most prestigious venues, including the legendary Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Rundetårnet in Copenhagen and the BB King Blues Club in New York.

The California Guitar Trio, featuring Paul Richards, Bert Lams and Tom Griesgraber, was founded in 1991 following a world tour with Robert Fripp’s League of Crafty Guitarists. The CGT’s music has been widely distributed throughout the United States and abroad. CGT has recorded 12 CDs and has performed on stage alongside such renowned musicians and artists as King Crimson, Jon Anderson, John McLaughlin, John Scofield, Tito Puente, Taj Mahal, Peter Rowan and Tony Rice, Dark Star Orchestra, Steve Lukather, Simon Phillips, Adrian Legg, Kaki King and many others.

In May 2019, MG3 and CGT launched their 2nd opus In a Landscape at One World Theater in Austin, Texas. This album crowned ten years of musical collaboration between the two trios.

Reviews

Three guitar wielding champions plus three more guitar wielding champions, that’s six champions, right? Oh no. The sum exceeds the sum; we are here in the exponential, like radioactive fallout.

— Sylvain Cormier, Le Devoir (Montreal)

[…] what pure happiness! Really a concert to see and see again!

— Info Culture, Radio-Canada (Montreal)

More than a one-off project, this meeting between the Montreal MG3 and the California Guitar Trio (CGT) is much more like the formation of a real sextet […] The experience is unique.

— Yves Bernard, Le Devoir (Montreal)
