Description
To celebrate the inimitable French composer Maurice Ravel’s 150th birthday, the Cheng² Duo unveils a vivid programme centred around his closest circle of musical companions. Among many others, Erik Satie, Igor Stravinsky, and Claude Debussy all mingled with each other and shared mutual admiration for Ravel, developing their own unique steadfast relationships with him, and thereby igniting inspiration in one another. As siblings Bryan and Silvie Cheng unravel the sensual and whimsical allure of Ravel’s world, witness the striking connections in some of these influential composers’ most famous works interspersed with lesser known gems, culminating in the Chengs’ original and brand-new cello-piano duo arrangement of Modest Mussorgsky’s wildly imaginative ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’, a monumental work which rocketed in popularity since Ravel’s own brilliant orchestral arrangement just over 100 years ago. A veritable revelry for all the senses!
