Ancient Carols for a Winter’s Night

Territory represented: Canada, USA

With the voice of an angel, Lizzy Hoyt delivers a magical evening of ancient carols to celebrate Christmas!

Lizzy has always felt a strong connection to the ancient melodies of early carols from Europe and the British Isle. So, when the opportunity arose to create a Christmas show, she knew exactly where to start! Lizzy spent time exploring this rich repertoire of music and discovered some less-known carols. She mixed them with her favourites, arranged them for her trio of Celtic instruments and is now bringing them on the road to share with others!

Many of the early melodies date to Pagan times and as such, are perfectly suited to the sounds and colours of a Celtic musician who plays fiddle, guitar, Celtic harp and the mandolin. Some songs tell the ancient stories of Christmas — the three wise men, King Herrod and King Wenceslas — while others simply sing of joy, peace and celebration!

During this 90 minute show, audiences will hear well-known carols, hidden gems and will enjoy a warm and festive atmosphere. As usual, Lizzy’s performances feature a mix of songs and instrumental numbers that include lively fiddle tunes, haunting Celtic harp medleys, as well as Cape Breton step-dancing!

Lizzy’s voice will bring light and warmth to the darkest and coldest of December nights. Come enjoy this Christmas show of ancient carols delivered by one of Canada’s most exciting Celtic-folk artists. There is no better way to welcome the season!

New Lady on the Prairie

Territory represented: Canada, USA

Entwining traditional and contemporary elements, Lizzy Hoyt delivers a diverse evening of music with soaring melodies rooted in Celtic and folk traditions.

Based on repertoire from her acclaimed album, “New Lady on the Prairie”, this show is a lyrical nod to the past — a collection of songs about Canadian history, immigration, women, war, love and family. Lizzy finely crafted songs for this album inspired by her maternal grandmother’s stories about their family tree. Due to her strong personal connection with the stories, Lizzy was able to create timeless songs that are touching, poignant and lyrically rich. For her work on this project, Lizzy was nominated for Songwriter of the Year (Western Canadian Music Awards), Solo Artist of the Year (Canadian Folk Music Awards), and Story Song of the Year (Independent Music Awards).

The repertoire list for this show includes some of these story songs mixed with favourites from Lizzy’s previous albums, some traditional Celtic songs, instrumental sets and a few covers by artists who have influenced her musical development (Dolly Parton, Rankin Family, Alison Krauss).

As a performer, Lizzy dazzles audiences with her diversity during this 90 minute show. Not only an accomplished songwriter, her gifts as a vocalist are highlighted as she sings with lyricism, gentleness and passion. Her talents as an instrumentalist are featured in spades: blistering fiddle sets, finger-style guitar, ancient melodies for Celtic harp and some percussive Cape Breton step-dancing.

Praised for her depth and diversity, you will love this powerful Celtic-folk performer!
