A Fool’s Errand

A show about folly and friendship

Territory represented: North America, Asia, Oceania

World renowned clown, juggler, and comic acrobat, Jamie Adkins, stumbles onstage, desperately trying to become the man he imagines himself to be. In his new show A Fool’s Errand, Adkins uses his unique blend of circus arts, acrobatic skill and unguarded physical comedy to explore the what-ifs along the path of life, accompanied by a charismatic tuba player. With deftly awkward juggling performances or falsely flimsy balancing acts on a slack wire, Jamie Adkins skillfully masters the art of tricks and comedy, and strikes the heart of young and old alike.

A Fool’s Errand is the result of the first collaboration between Jamie Adkins and musician Julie Houle. Thanks to a perfect control of her instrument, Houle creates an atmosphere where complicity and play are in the foreground.

A delicate balance of chaos and control, loneliness and companionship, A Fool’s Errand, is more about the art of perseverance than the achievement of success.

This show benefited a residency of co-production of the Place des Arts (Montréal, Québec), a residency of creation from La Cascade (Pôle National des Arts du Cirque, France) and a residency at La Maison de la Culture Mercier (Montréal).

Circus Incognitus

Territory represented: North America, Asia, Oceania

In Circus Incognitus, Jamie brings his talents to bear on the story of a man who has written a teriffic new show. When he wanders onto the stage with is show in a box and is delighted to find an audience right there, waiting for a show, he knows he’s got just the thing! Jamie’s performance is full of humble and unguarded poetry and side-splitting wit. He attempts to relay his ideas in spite of his unhelpful props and finds unconventional solutions when events begin to go awry. He builds the scene around him using everyday objects, he juggles just about everything and grapples with his own antic chair. He maneuvers along-side a hat with ideas of its own and negotiates a precarious slack wire. Jamie is the everyman, with all of his vulnerability, humour and humble genius. Jamie has performed Circus Incognitus more than 700 times in 22 countries.
